If you’ve ever stood in your backyard trying to picture a patio where there’s currently just grass and a grill, that’s the exact moment I like to get involved. I studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and eleven years later I’m still happiest sketching fire pits and outdoor kitchens for people who’ve never worked with a designer before. Stamped concrete or pavers, phased budgets, drainage that actually moves water away from the house instead of toward it: that’s what makes or breaks a patio. I still show up with a tape measure before I ever open a mood board.
